Community

Community stewardship is at the very core of O.R.E. Development Corporation (O.R.E.). O.R.E. contributes 10 percent of its pretax profits and its employees volunteer many hours to nonprofit and charitable organizations.

O.R.E.'s U.S. affiliate has also established significant programs to assist those less fortunate, including:

Opus Prize

Launched in 2004, the annual $1 million faith-based humanitarian award is given to an individual or organization of any religion, anywhere in the world. The recipient must demonstrate innovative strategies to solving deeply rooted problems in their community - poverty, hunger, illiteracy or disease - and must do so in ways that foster personal responsibility and independence. The 2005 recipient is Reach Education Action Programme (REAP) founded by Rev. Trevor Miranda in Mumbai, India. Under Rev. Miranda's leadership, REAP in just six years has opened more than 450 literacy centers to bring books and teachers to the desperately poor.

Progress Valley

This nonprofit organization was founded by Opus and has operations in Minneapolis and Phoenix. Progress Valley provides comprehensive residential services to chemically dependent adults after they complete primary treatment. More than 6,000 people have graduated from Progress Valley programs during the last 30 years.
